Charles Hardin Holley was born on September 7, 1936 in Lubbock, Texas and was a pioneer of rock and roll in the late 1950s. He died in a plane crash on February 3, 1959. Buddy Holly played rock and roll for only two short years. In 1957 Holly, Larry Welborn (later replaced by Joe B. Mauldin), Jerry Allison and Niki Sullivan formed the Crickets. It was during this time that the star acquired the 1958 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe that is shown in this video. 58 Classic Chevy.Com doesn't know what happened to the 1958 Chevy Impala Buddy Holly owned since this video was uploaded on YouTube. However, a newspaper story appear in a Lubbock, Texas newspaper in 1999. According to Chris Mc Loone the owner of Buddy Holly's car offered it to Bill Clement, owner of Lubbock's 1950s radio station (1590 AM KDAV) and a 400 piece Chevrolet car collection. Clement now has the title as well as the canceled check drawn on Buddy Holly and the Crickets' account to purchase the car. "And I've got a lot of paperwork from years gone by that substantiates the ownership chain of this 1958 Chevy," says Clement. Proving authenticity Bill Clement purchased the old Chevrolet and plans to restore it to orignal condition. Buddy Holly's upbeat sound was a transition between rockabilly and the pop rock music that would follow in the decades to come. The wealth of material he recorded in that time made a major and lasting impact on popular music. Some of his most popular records include Oh Boy, Everyday, Maybe Baby, That’ll Be the Day, Love’s Made a Fool of You, It’s So Easy, Well…All Right, Rave On, Not Fade Away and Peggy Sue! Peggy Sue, Oh Boy and That Will Be The Day!
