1958 Chevrolet Buddy Holly – The 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air Series included a Chevy Impala Convertible, Chevy Impala Sport Coupe 2 Door Hard Top, Bel Air Sport Coupe 2 Door Hard Top, Bel Air Sport Sedan 4 Door Hard Top, Bel Air 2 Door Sedan and a 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air 4 Door Sedan. Over the years Chevrolet and General Motors had many star cars. One recent find is a 1958 Chevy Impala Sport Coupe that wasn’t found until recently. Believe it or not this Chevy was found in a junk yard.
Charles Hardin Holley was born on September 7, 1936 in Lubbock, Texas and was a pioneer of rock and roll in the late 1950s. He died in a plane crash on February 3, 1959. Buddy Holly played rock and roll for only two short years. In 1957 Holly, Larry Welborn (later replaced by Joe B. Mauldin), Jerry Allison and Niki Sullivan formed the Crickets. It was during this time that the star acquired the 1958 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe that is shown in this video.

However, a newspaper story appear in a Lubbock, Texas newspaper in 1999. According to Chris Mc Loone the owner of Buddy Holly’s car offered it to Bill Clement, owner of Lubbock’s 1950s radio station (1590 AM KDAV) and a 400 piece Chevrolet car collection. Clement now has the title as well as the canceled check drawn on Buddy Holly and the Crickets’ account to purchase the car. “And I’ve got a lot of paperwork from years gone by that substantiates the ownership chain of this 1958 Chevy,” says Clement. Proving authenticity Bill Clement purchased the old Chevrolet and plans to restore it to orignal condition.
Buddy Holly’s upbeat sound was a transition between rockabilly and the pop rock music that would follow in the decades to come. The wealth of material he recorded in that time made a major and lasting impact on popular music.
